To the Parents Who Want to Bottle up their Family Memories and Create a Legacy your Children WILL Thank You For:
“GIVE ME 10 MINS A DAY FOR 2 WEEKS AND YOU’LL BE CREATING BEAUTIFUL FILMS AND CURATING A LEGACY FOR YOUR FAMILY!”
Family Memories Don’t Happen By Chance – They Are made…one moment at a time!
Read on to see how you too can take the stress out of capturing family memories. Without having to spend Hundreds on professional photographers, Hours and hours Writing a Journal or years training at film school!
From: The desk of Tim Richardson, Memory Makers Academy
Creating a life that’s memorable for you children can be exhausting. Especially if you’re leaving those memories to chance. If you’re like most parents we want everything for our children. We want to provide them with life experiences that they’ll look back on and in years to come will say
“I had an awesome childhood”
So what most parents do?
We go from one thing to the next – planning the next big adventure – in the hope that those experiences will the be the things that stick in their long term memory.
Think back to your own childhood…
What are the things that you remember most?
I bet there’s a fair few family holidays, the occasional Christmas or birthday, the first days at school…
We remember Events that have intrinsic significance attached to them.
but how do we as parents ensure that our children grow up with a positive set of memories from their childhood?
The #1 Mistake Parents make when bottling up Family Memories:
OverReliance on Photography
Parents spend hundreds on professional photographs to send to the grand parents. From studio portaits to school photos.
Don’t get me wrong – I love photography…
But photographs don’t tell the whole story!
After my dad died I went up to my grans house and remember looking through photograph albums of my dad and his siblings.
There were some classic pictures – but so many of them I had no clue what was going on or what they were doing. (many of them I wasn’t even able to tell if it was my dad or my uncle!)
Photography requires someone else to tell the story behind the photograph.
And often the story behind a professional studio shoot isn’t that much of a story!
“We got dressed up in clothes we wouldn’t normally wear, while someone we didn’t know took photos of us in a studio we’d never been to before, and made us look like a polished version of ourselves that we barely recognise”
Mistake #2: JOURNALS DON’T WORK
Recently I was clearing out the attic and I came across an old journal. I started reading it with great curiosity. It wasn’t until I was 6 pages in that I realised that this wasn’t actually my wife’s diary, as I’d first thought – it was in fact my own!
For people who can write – journals can be a very cathartic exercise.
But translating emotional experiences into written text isn’t easy. Otherwise I’d be the next JK Rowling by now!
To write a journal that truly captures what your children were doing you have to:
– Interpret the days events to decide what’s important
– Spend the time to turn that into prose that captures the emotional events of the day not just lists out facts.
– You need to be able to lay your heart bare on the page – and not worry about what others thing – because later on in life someone else is going to read this!
The truth is that when I was reading that diary I didn’t recognise the person on the pages. In fact I ended up throwing the diary out – because I didn’t like the person that was described.
Mistake #3: VIDEOS are Boring
Videos parents naturally record of their children are often 1-2 minutes long. Filmed from a static position.
But what’s the end result?…
You end up scrolling through your phone and you see videos that are 1-2 minutes long and instead of watching with excitement – you simply scrub through to see if anything good happens.
The worst thing is that more often than not these long clips get deleted because they don’t evoke a memory (and you need to clear some space on your phone!)
But – There’s only one reason you’d scrub through a video looking for a good bit:
It’s boring – and it doesn’t evoke a memory.
When was the last time you scrubbed through a ‘proper movie’ to see if there was a ‘good bit’?
It doesn’t happen!
We look forward to watching a good Disney flick – why don’t we feel the same about our own family memories?
NO PARENT SHOULD FEEL BORED LOOKING BACK ON THEIR MOST PRECIOUS MEMORIES!
Film allows you to curate a set of memories to pass on to your children… and your children’s children!
Throughout life our brains are working overtime! Mostly it’s trying to work out what we need to ‘survive and to thrive’
If you automatically remembered every detail of life you’d have sooooo much uneccessary information ticking over in your brain that you would find it impossible to process!
So our brain does a brilliant job of ignoring most of the mundane stuff and focussing on the big events.
Think about it though – these events make up such a minor percentage of your upbringing – what about the other 90% of day-to-day activities that don’t have that same story attached to them?
What if there was a way of remembering all the little details – the day to day stuff!
Well now there is!
(The Truth is it’s been there for a while – we just never realised it!)
Film allows you to ‘re-experience’ a moment and create a new memory
At 7: 15am I got a Whatsapp message saying that my daughter had just rolled over for the first time. The photo above came with it.
Knowing that this was a moment that I will almost certainly forget I went through to the kitchen to see if she’d do it again and recorded this little memory.
She tried over and over again to roll then finally she did it! The determination and perseverance she displayed was phenomenal considering she’s not even 3 months!
I have no idea when my eldest daughter first rolled over or what I was doing at the time.
But when I look back in 30 years time I’ll be able to re-experience the moment daughter number 2 first rolled!
We all carry around an iphone with us 99% of the time.
It has the ability to record incredible video!
The problem is in the way we capture moments
So Why aren’t parents Editing family films?
Well it’s a bit like the difference between being a chef and being a good cook.
Most parents want to serve up a delicious and healthy meal for their kids. Occasionally you want to surprise your partner with a special meal – but that doesn’t mean that you want to go all out and work in a kitchen!
For many parents it’s the same with Video. You know you want to capture a moment so you press record. But you don’t want to be making feature films for the big screen! So you never edit them!
Especially when you’re trying to raise a family at the same time!
Chances are you already know that just filming one long clip doesn’t make for an interesting film.
Evidenced by how rarely you sit down and watch through the hundreds of videos you’ve got on you iPhone…
trust me I’ve been there!
I’ve been filming professionally for 15 years!
And yet when my daughter was born I felt exactly the same and I did exactly the same.
UNTIL…
On one occasion my wife was away with work. It was at a time when my daughter would do everything she could to not have naps indoors and the only way to get her to sleep was to go for an hour long walk with the buggy.
This one occasion we were playing in the lounge and it was getting towards nap time so I went out to prepare the buggy – only to come back a couple of minutes later to find her asleep in her little den.
I knew one 30 second clip of a sleeping child wouldn’t convey the relief I felt in that moment
I knew one 30 second clip of a sleeping child wouldn’t convey the relief I felt in that moment so instead – I just filmed 5 short clips and edited them together.
I sent them across on WhatsApp.
Even though it wasn’t a particularly exciting film it told a story.
That night as my daughter lay in bed, and my wife was in a hotel in Germany – we both sat chatting about it on WhatsApp.
I must have watched that video 20 times.
But more importantly – even 2 years later – just thinking about that film takes me right back to the moment!
I remembered exactly how I felt and what was going on.
This wasn’t just a film it was a memory.
So I set about making more films. I filmed EVERYTHING!!
Hoping to create more memories!
But I failed miserably!
I’d come back from a day out with hundreds of clips and just didn’t have the time to edit them together.
Some days I filmed too much.
Some days I didn’t film enough.
A few of the early films looked great – but at the sacrifice of my own experience.
I spent all day as a passive observer as my family had a lovely day out.
That was no way to raise a family.
BUT I knew that capturing a set of memories for my children to look back on was super important!
I realised I had to change my approach
After MONTHS of trial and error – I finally developed a method that enabled me to capture a memory in minutes and edit it super fast.
And after sharing my methods online – hundreds of parents across the world are doing the same!
The methods I’ve developed are designed specifically so that you can:
– Capture a moment in under 5 minutes
– Edit it right on your iPhone in under 10 minutes
– be sustainable for any parent – no matter how ‘creative’ you think you are or how ‘technical you think you aren’t‘
Great memories shouldn’t be left to chance
Imagine for a second, 30 years down the line, your grandchildren sat on your lap asking you what their mum or dad was like when they were their age.
Instead of trying to describe in detail what your child was like – you can show them instead!
They can experience the joy you felt when your child giggled for the first time, the first time they rolled over, crawled, walked, their first words, the first time they learnt to do up their own shoes…
The power is right in the palm of your hands
Imagine being able to choose which moments become memories.
Imagine being able to relive and re-experience your child growing up.
Imagine for a second that you had a step by step process to be able to record a memory in minutes…
…without having been to film school…
…without having to spend hours editing at your computer…
…without needing to be a technological whizz…
…or a creative genius!
…because your children (and your grandchildren) deserve a life that is memorable!
“You’ve made something I thought was so technical, simple!”
“You inspired me to do this! You’ve broken it down in such a practical and simple process – so wonderful and you’ve made something that I though was so technical, simple! I never thought that I could have memories like this!”
Roopa
“my dad thought I’d paid someone to make films for me”
“What’s really nice is that I shared a video with my dad last week and he was like “Who made this for you?” So obviously it’s had a good impact because he thinks I’ve paid someone professionally to make it”
Nitesh
Each section of Memory Makers iPhone Academy is laid out to make the film making process fast, simple and most of all possible by any parent of any ability.
Whether you are short on time, believe you aren’t the ‘creative type’, or even if you’re a self-confessed techno-phobe.
This 4 week program has been specifically designed to make the process possible.
“I followed your advice but thought my first film would be crap because I’ve never done one and don’t have much talent. But omg it turned out soooo good haha”

One of the biggest frustrations when making films is finding the right music. We show you how to find and source music that will add to the emotion of your films and ensure you don't get flagged on social media!
You've probably got a whole heap of unorganised footage on your phones - Here we show you how do you store your memories so that you can access them quickly and never worry about losing them
How do you take all those old films that you recorded before Memory Makers and turn them into something you'll want to watch time and again!

What will you do now…
I want you to know something about me. I’m no one special. You might look at the films that I’ve made of my daughters and think “I could never do that!”
Before this journey began I felt the same way too! And honestly the films I made in the beginning weren’t even that great!
But if you make a film one day – you learn from it. The next time you get a little better, the next time you get a little better until one day you wake up and all of a sudden you’re pretty awesome!
And that’s what I love about the system I’ve developed! You don’t have to have gone to film school, you don’t have to spend hours planning out a film.
The best memories happen when you are there in the moment capturing the joy that’s happening right in front of you.
You experience it in real life – and with Memory Makers – you can experience it again and again!
Not only that your friends and family can experience it too.
My mum lives in France. My in-laws live 5 hours away. We don’t have family that can come along on the ride of parenting here with us. But with video we can build psychological closeness – even without physical closeness.
So I know it’s an investment. But it’s an investment that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.
And hopefully when your kids are older they’ll have a bank of memories they can look back on and that will be priceless!
[deadlinefunnel type=’inline’]
I have specifically designed the training to be easily digestible. Each week there are a series of videos that range from 3 – 15 minutes. And action challenges designed to get you into the habit of making memories quickly!
I totally recognise that sometimes life gets in the way. No worries – you can go at your own pace as you’ll have access to the training for as long as Memory Makers exists!
While there are plans afoot to create an android version of the course – at the minute the main software we use to edit is iPhone only.
If you’re on android and you want me to get on and hurry up making a course for you then email me at support@memorymakersacademy.com and chivvy me along
For the filming all you need is your iPhone. While gadgets are nice and all – by the time you’ve set them up the moment has passed!
As for software you need one app called Luma Fusion which you can download on the app store. It typically costs around £20 – depending on when and where you are located.
